I made exactly the same suggestion about mini-pet loot collectors about 6 months ago. Perhaps the thread was pruned if you didn't find it.

For what it's worth...

Maybe just have it collect green/gold items and gold. Too much trouble setting up a system where they have their own inventory, etc. and ANet is less likely to set up something that complicated.

You can't be against this. It's one of the things I love in Silkroad. Really a great feature.

The inventory is already set: The unclaimed items window.
Items picked by miniatures would go there.
Gld would go to players inventories, just as if a player clicked it.

yea i still like this but i dont like the idea of one pet sorting out peoples items, if i have to leave in the middle of a mission i dont wnat to lose out on what i did do.

Yeah, I agree. I've revised exactly how this would work:

You start off by choosing the criteria for picked up loot. For example, you can choose for your mini to pick up only greens, green and gold items, only gold, nothing etc. As the minipet picks up an item it is automatically added to your inventory. The reason for this and not a temporary "miniper storage" is that you may want to use a weapon dropped for example. This will also allow you to delete items from your inventory if you need more space. To explain what I mean, think of your minipet as your walking inventory, that has some intelligence ^^...it can fill itself how you choose. Gold picked up by your mini will automatically be added to your bank.

If, for some reason, your minipet is unable to pick up the loot before the end of the mission, the "Unclaimed Items" window will appear as it currently does.

I think this is the only effective way of getting the minis to pick up our loot, without them been exploited (used as extra storage etc.) You still have complete control over your loot, as you can delete items from your inventory if you need space and can choose what your minipet picks up.

nah if you have it where you have minipet bag, where whenever a petpicks up something it goes into the minipet bag, if you need something then open it and take it out and add it to your invetory, BUT the way this could be used so it was not used as extra storage is if you dont claim those items in the next town and leave town they are lost. ALSO nothing can be put in the bags only pulled out. so they would not be able to be used as extra storage but you dont have to stop in the middle of a mission to delete some useless items that your damn pet picked up so you can get the good ones.

The only problem I see with that is that there's still a way for it to be used as extra storage. People won't have to use their inventory for loot, as they will simply use the minipet as a bag and transfer the items one-by-one into their inventory in town, then merchanting it and doing whatever they like with it :/

yes but the pet bag could only be like 25 slots so its not a huge storage to be used which would be good i believe

Hm... not really.

You can't put things into the unclaimed item window.
And they should make it so if you leave the outpost by any mean other that the party leader bringing you to another outpost or disconnecting, the window is emptied.

You it could not be used as another bag.

I personally don't mind them having an inventory I'm just wondering if ArenaNet will find this okay or not
